Adorning quilts and jewelry, this emblem silently guided those navigating treacherous bayous in their daring escape from bondage. It was also commonly used to brand the faces of those recaptured after an escape attempt. In the shadows of plantation life, the fleur-de-lis emerged as a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who ran towards freedom, eternally woven into the fabric of a history that refuses to be forgotten.
